Jays are flamboyantmembers of the crow family, with jewel-like blueflashes on their wings. Far shyer than their all-black relatives, they are drawn into our gardens in autumn.The Jay is an eye-catching visitorwith adiscordant call, and apt to send feeder regularsflying as it sweeps in. These are birds on amission, determined tofind acornswherever theymaybe, scouting parks and gardens for asmany as they canfind. From late September to earlyNovember, Jays collect acorns then hide them away to eat at a laterdate.
